What is Natural Language Search?

Natural language search is performing a search using your everyday spoken language. You simply write your query as you would ask a question or make a statement.

How do I perform a natural language search?

You can ask a question or type a sentence or paragraph that describes the information you are looking for. The more detailed your query, the more relevant your results will be. For example you can copy and paste a paragraph from an existing document into the search box and ask for more like this.

Can I simply use keywords to search?

Yes, but your search results will not necessarily have high relevancy to the information you are looking for. Keyword search will simply look for those words in articles or content. You should be providing context to what you want. That means that the more information you provide the greater the contextualisation and relevancy of your results.

What is the optimal way to search?

Short descriptive sentences work best. The optimal search will consist of several sentences.

What's the incentive to take the time to write a natural language query?

knuru works best if you put a little more effort and time into writing your query so that we can do the work for you and save you time with directly related and relevant results and information. With other search engines you spend little time in writing your query but usually have to spend considerable time trawling through the hyperlink results.

Can I access knuru through the new Research Button in the latest version of Microsoft Office?

Why are results returned in two tabs?

The two current tabs present results from different sources. The tab on the left presents results from our business school partner (Wharton). This tab is essentially strategic information representing results from a qualified research perspective. This type of information is not necessarily up to the minute time critical. The tab on the right provides current and recent news results. This is tactical information giving a snapshot of what's happening now. The combination of strategic and tactical information allows you to quickly compare what is known from a research perspective versus what's actually happening now.

Why does knuru not return results from all online sources?

The Web is a wonderful place for information. It is not always a wonderful place for reliable information. This is due both to the sheer quantity of information available as well as the fact that anyone can publish. This is at variance with traditional publishing (non-Web) where publications are known and respected for their expertise and quality of information (or not, as the case may be). knuru is a business information resource. We make no claims to be anything more than that. Our interest is serving deeply relevant information speedily to business users. In turn, we know that business users need identifiable and reliable sources. Quality and not quantity.
